The Hua Xian Chinese Society presents an evening with the theme ‘Golden Era’ – harking back to the glamourous heydays of jazz and swing with a Chinese twist.

Join other distinguished guests at Lancaster Town Hall’s prestigious Banqueting suite to enjoy a Chinese feast and enjoy performances by:

  • Northern Dragons Lion Dance;
  • More Music Long Walk Chinese Orchestra;
  • CSSA Traditional Chinese Dance Group; and
  • Lancaster University Music Society Big Band playing classic swing and jazz hits throughout the evening.

The evening also includes the Hua Xian Chinese Society’s annual prize giving ceremony recognising the work of its volunteers.

Sigh of the Sea

Join us on North Beach in central Morecambe to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the cockling tragedy in 2004.

There will be a small decorated tented village with food and hot drinks, lanterns to decorate, a sculptural bonfire, music and singing.

Send your wishes and thoughts out on the tide and in the wind.

“The moon laughs the clouds cry
And a seagull screams at the night’s sky
And the sad sea sighs – goodbye”

Wu Chi-TSUNG: Recalibrate

Wu Chi-Tsung is interested in how images are made and seen. Landscape, nature and the urban environment feature in his work and the themes are central to the national Recalibrate
programme. Although his early influences come from painting, specifically Eastern shan shui works and Western watercolour landscapes, his powerful work is often realised through video, photography, installation and performance.

The Lancaster edition of Recalibrate is a unique split-site exhibition between Peter Scott Gallery and the dramatic grade II listed gallery at The Storey that will present artworks that
include the all-encompassing installation Crystal City 004 (a newly commissioned work for Recalibrate), cyanotypes from the Wrinkled Textures series and several examples from Wu Chi-Tsung’s elegant landscape and still life video works.

The Peter Scott Gallery will also be exhibiting a display of their Chinese art collection alongside the Recalibrate exhibition.

Free entry to both sites.
