We've come a long way...

The Lancaster Arts Festival has grown over the years to become a major annual event bringing together artists, musicians, martial artists and the community in celebrating Chinese and East-Asian culture around Lancaster and Morecambe.

The Chinese New Year Celebrations began as a charity fund-raiser held at the Morecambe Youth and Community Centre in response to the 2004 Tsunami Earthquake Disaster where we raised over £1800 to support relief efforts in affected areas.

Since then, the festival has had its home in many different places – including St. Barnabas Community Centre in Morecambe’s West End, local libraries, shopping centres, Lancaster Town Hall, Lancaster & Morecambe College and Lancaster University.

The past decade has been a fascinating journey with highlights including an exhibition by international artist Ed Pien in collaboration with the Storey Gallery, and the introduction of Chinese Opera to Lancaster at the Dukes Theatre, demonstrating our commitment to showcasing traditional and contemporary culture of Chinese origin.
We would also like to take the opportunity to thank the many volunteers, organisations and supporters who have been crucial to the success of the festival over the years.

The Lancaster Chinese Arts Festival couldn’t be in a better place as Lancaster and Morecambe is such a unique and exciting place. We look forward to many more years creating incredible experiences for everyone to enjoy Chinese and East Asian culture.
